Hi there! My name is Fr Larry Adams, and I’m one of the new priest administrators in our Monroeville / Penn Hills grouping!
Most recently, I was assigned to the parishes of the Braddock / Forest Hills / Swissvale grouping (Good Shepherd, Madonna del Castello, St Maurice, and Word of God Parishes).
I grew up in West Mifflin, near Kennywood Park (and yes, just like Fr Al, I worked there while I was in college!). Growing up, I was a parishioner at St Hedwig Parish in Duquesne (now part of Christ the Light of the World parish in the Duquesne / West Mifflin / Munhall / Homestead grouping), and I attended St Agnes School in West Mifflin, Serra Catholic High School in McKeesport, and the University of Pittsburgh. For about twenty years, I had a career in the business world, in a variety of roles – computer programmer, project manager, teacher, and consultant – before discerning a call to the priesthood. I’ve been ordained for six years now – and what an experience it’s been! Over the past six years, I’ve been assigned to 17 parishes (including our five parishes).
I enjoy celebrating the Mass, preaching (from the Scriptures, in particular!) and Bible studies and other catechetical ministries. I’m excited about the opportunities for ministry in our MPH grouping!
When I relax, I enjoy spending time in the outdoors (especially in the fall!), cooking, and reading. (People often ask me what I like to cook, and I have to admit – it’s an eclectic list! My grandma taught me to cook all sorts of great Polish and Slovak dishes, and the cities across the USA in which I’ve worked throughout my career have given me opportunities to learn all sorts of cuisines: Cajun, BBQ, and Asian dishes are all part of my repertoire!)
I’ll be living at St Bernadette, and I’m hoping to have opportunities to minister at Divine Mercy Academy. Coming from a Catholic school background myself, I feel very strongly that Catholic schools and Catholic education are valuable resources for the formation of our young people. (I’m also a member of the board of directors for our school’s region – the Pittsburgh-East Regional Catholic Elementary Schools – and the great people I’ve worked with in that capacity fill me with great enthusiasm and hope that we’ll do awesome things to enhance the quality of Catholic education in our region in the upcoming years!)
