I am settled in nicely and want to thank you all for your warm welcome. The last 8 weeks have been full of joy and excitement as we begin building a vision for our young Church. Here are some things that we have coming up!
Official name and Upcoming Vision:
I have been praying over what Youth Ministry will be named at our parish and have come up with the name "Reckless Youth Ministry."The name not only speaks to God's reckless love for us, but also to the way we are challenged to love our Father and to be authentic witnesses to Christ!
As of right now, Reckless Youth Ministry will be serving grades 7th-12th. We may possibly add grade 6 in the upcoming year. Our desire is to build a team and meet weekly. At our meetings, we will break out into two groups: grades 7-8 and grades 9-12.Grades 9-12 will also serve as our Core Team of Leaders for Youth Ministry.More events to engage our young people will be on the calendar this spring and we will have a full schedule by May of 2023.the weeks to come, I ask that you pray over how YOU may be involved in our Youth Ministry Team.In the new year, I will be having a meet and greet with all those interested.
Ugly Sweater Party:
Our first Youth Ministry event will be a Christmas party! This is open to all 7th and 8th graders on December 22nd from 6-8pm in Biedenbach Hall.Food, games, bring a friend, and wear an ugly sweater if you would like!We will also be packing blessing bags for our area homeless. Our friends at St. Joseph the Worker parish are also bringing their 7th-8th grade students to join us in the fun!
Parish/School Connection:
Divine Mercy Academy has been good enough to allow me to teach on Monday afternoons to the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade class. We are hopeful that these students will become an active part of Reckless Youth Ministry. They are an incredible group of young people!
Confirmation Class:
I have been able to meet twice with our 8th grade class who will be Confirmed next fall. They are a wonderful group and are very interested in getting more involved in the life of our parish. Please pray for them, their sponsors, and their families. We plan to get them together more often to build relationship and community.
Please continue to pray that the Holy Spirit may move the hearts of our young people so that they may come into a relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.Thank you for all you do to support this ministry.
Christ's peace and our Mother Mary's love,
Mary Sampey - Youth and Young Adult Minister
